Front Lawn a Mess from Snow Plow was created by clifton heights
Last weekend's storm brought quite a bit of damage to my front lawn by the bucket of a tow truck. Now that the snow is melted there is a strip about 5 feet deep along the front of our lawn that is torn and muddy with large balls of ripped dirt and grass strewn about. I strive to maintain this and am really upset. Does anyone know if I have recourse with the City of Brockton and how I go about putting in this claim for damage? It is a mess.

CH, I go through this every year with snow plows, because I have a corner lot and they tear my lawn to shreds. Don’t count on a good job by the DPW. They plant weeds and make my entire lawn into a weed factory, plus they use dirt taken from sites that have stones, etc. in it.
Call them if you like, but don’t expect anything to look like what you had. My lawn has been destroyed every yr. since I’ve lived here, so I know. 21 yrs. now. They actually have come into my lawn at least 10 feet and never raised the plow, so you can imagine the damage. They even destroyed a buckboard I always decorated. It was made by the Amish and cost a pretty penny and I never got reimbursed for it. Add to that, they destroyed my entire yard from front to back, breaking my curbing and even shoving my boulders way into my property.
So, good luck.

Take pictures if you haven't done already. Damage can only be repaired in the Spring. I'm curious if it was a contractor who caused the senseless damage...or city? Either way, a supervisor should see the mess.

You’re right, Daisy. I’d post mine, but we can’t post pics anymore.
Get your claim in without hesitation, because the city is shrewd and
will tell you it wasn’t done in a timely fashion, etc.
They conveniently lost my paper work not once, but twice. Then I
couldn't wait any longer and paid to have the work done, submitting
the bill to them. I was told I should have waited for them. Yeah? 10 months
later? Don't think so. I couldn't even mow my lawn, it was that bad. I had mounds
of dirt everywhere with deep holes and gullies.
Good luck. They will take care of you if you don't have vast damage, like me.

Thanks for the replies. I did take photos; the damage is not going anywhere. I wish I knew whether it was city or contractor, but I assume they will know with the address. I will start with DPW. If they remove the chunks it will be progress.

CH, if the DPW does do the work, they will simply eye level your l awn and reseed it. Their eyes are not like yours and mine, if you get the drift, lol. The seed is mainly weeds and if they do add soil, it is not soil, but is dirt with stones as I already stated.
Don't put it off. Spring really is just around the corner.

My front yard got roughed up alittle, it does every year. I put a couple of stakes out last year, which disappeared under all the snow, lol. Scary for all the damage done with just 6 inches. Someone needs remedial training!

My issue has been going on for 22 yrs. I highly doubt the same plow drivers are still around, so
they all do damage. I realize a corner lot will always suffer, but not to the magnitude I’ve been subjected to.
As much as I asked for a flag on my hydrant because it’s right on the very edge of the street, I was told
Brockton doesn’t do that. Well, lo and behold, once the hydrant was cremated, guess who put up a flag? Lol.
I tried preventing it, but we’re never heard. And I always used to dig it out. 3-4 times during storms. No more. Can’t do it.

A couple of my neighbors with corner lots get big time wrecked. Good luck everyone, we are going to pay for all this nice warm weather!
Clifton, go to Seeclickfix and you will see a number of people reporting damage, some re occurring, some new. I personally never saw so many signs knocked down.

We are not a corner lot. I have no idea how they missed the neighbors flanking us. I found that website today and will enter my info there, thanks Daisy. @Capt, we also have a hydrant - properly flagged when we moved in. We, too, dig it out every storm. Fortunately they dropped the bucket after passing it. I wish our lawn was just roughed up. I will report if any replies come my way from the DPW. Thanks, all.

I have a corner lot with a drain. One year they cracked the stone curb on the drain. I planted a cedar tree on the corner. Somehow it manages to survive the winters and the craploads of snow they pile on my corner. It's 8 feet tall now. I also put sticks out, mostly to mark where I have to dig out the drain. What I did was to let some of the milkweed grow on the corner (helps the Monarch butterflies) next to the cedar. Seems to slow down the plow man, or at least the tree gets their attention. Good luck!

I watched the plow driver today push the snow onto my property again without raising the plow, so I anticipate the same old hunks of my lawn being destroyed. I don’t mind receiving the brunt of the snow that others don’t get, but geez!! Lift the damn plow!! He came within inches of my flag pole, which is way into my property. It’s now leaning.
It's not like we had two feet of snow. Why can't they use a bit more discretion?
