- city council would like a raise, please.
city council would like a raise, please.
oh boo-hoo, you have to go to meetings and work long hours!... so doesn't everyone else, but they don't have the luxury of getting to vote themselves a raise on the backs of everyone else already struggling to make ends meet amidst a grossly crippled local economy
and in this time, you donkeys want a raise?.... schools woefully underbudgeted along with everything else.... you sicken me.... you people ought to be ashamed of yourselves
disgraceful

But if you don't think I or anyone else does their job then vote us out that's your right. And I know we are all no good and don't do anything for the money and are getting kickbacks and are ruining the city and everything else you can come up with.
The hatred for us all is obvious .
I will say the city is heading in the right direction Inthink the Mayor is doing a good job and not sitting on his hands.we have many good things happening In this city and before you know it we will be booming again.
The economic summit today was very informative and plans are now being actively worked on with the planning Dept to move the city forward. So things are looking up believe it or not and with a now fully staffed planning Dept and Main Street manager we have the people in place to do the job.

And I'm sure I'll get Balah blah blah for even stating this.
As always I try to think things through and do what's right and I look at the whiole picture, and I think I have done that over the last 5 and a half years . it's going to be two weeks before we vote on it so a lot to think about before we even vote.
obviously some don't care what I personally think but it's okay to write what you personally think if your not. An elected official. I must have missed the memo

I appreciate this Tom... It would be interesting to see how the "tank the Gas Tax" ballot question did in Brockton, I'm sure with the demographic it didn't do well, but it did just pass Massachusetts by a pretty big margin.
Like I said, I think the raise is warranted even if it is a relatively large amount, just the automatic thing that sticks in my craw.

I think it was the 50% raise immediately, tied to inflation and really no discussion except amongst themselves (who are voting for it) that annoyed me. Added in was talk of water increase (I know CC hasn't sanctioned it). At a time when unions are being told there is no money for raises is a bit infuriating. Think about it as a private citizen and not a City employee and perhaps you can see why folks are full of angst on this one.

you're ego driven and forget who you work for and who pays you
this city gets worse as the years pass.... it is so starving for funds, and you just don't care .... i dont care how noble your rhetoric
am i pissed? .. youre damn right i am.... and i have every right to be... you are hired to work in my best interests, not yours, or any ideological principle you might harbor
i'm not projecting, i dont have anger issues, i'm not negative .... im just a husband and father trying to do what's best for my family in difficult times, and you and your gang continue to keep people like me struggling and in the hole, without any prospects that my community is going to get better
now, maybe you do deserve a raise commensurate to what you do, but you really could not have picked a shittier time, and a more grossly inflated rate, considering everything else going on in this city.... it's inappropriate and very troubling

OS, I'm not even going to address that.
And I never said I was going to vote for it.
This city is getting better the downtown is being developed, The Trinity project is 99% rented with the Market Rate Occupants that are required. Phase 2 with the parking garage will be starting within 2 Years. The vacant buildings downtown have a lot of investers looking at them, the Kresge Building is going to be renovated with mixed use it will keep the original facade and build up 3 floors,I just met with the planner on that last week.
The economic summit had some big hitters from the state and our Congressional delegation on board with helping the city. The Mayor has forged a great relationship with then and they are going to help.
Things are on the upswing believe me Vincente Market and the Health Center at Pleasant and Warren Ave will be opened by June.
West Elm street will be started and Pleasant St will be finishe'd this year as will Belmont St from the off ramps to the High School.
A lot of good things in the works.
The Colleges coming downtown will spur economic growth and it will snowball from there!

"We shall see," the farmer replied. The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. "How wonderful," the neighbors exclaimed.
"We shall see," replied the old man. The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. "We shall see," answered the farmer. The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. "We shall see," said the farmer.

Also, from today's Enterprise:
(Article states Dubois, DeNapoli and Sullivan voted against the measure).
Councilor-at-large Jass Stewart said he proposed the increase because he believes councilors are underpaid for how much they do and how little institutional support they have. The School Committee raise was added to Stewart’s original measure in committee by Ward 1 Councilor Timothy Cruise.
Altogether the proposal would cost the city about $66,000 during the first year. It would not take effect until January 2016.
Critics of the proposal – including Mayor Bill Carpenter and some School Committee members – say it is not a good time to increase those salaries because the city is facing another tight budget season and several unions are out of contract.

I know but Sedell is also and he's a hand puppet for STP to boot. I'm hoping someone else runs for W1.

Can anyone name me one great thing any of the CC has done in the past 20 years?
