Mayoral Elections
dadof2 wrote: I just think if it's either candidates strategy to appoint posters to attack their opponents, it may backfire on the candidate.
I doubt very much that either candidate is appointing people to attack opponents. I post when I see someone putting up complete bullshit and I back it up. I have treated Tagger with kid gloves and will not attack his character because he is genuinely a good guy. I'll disagree respectfully. Its the others who post BS and people pick it and run with it. They don't care about fairness or truth, they just want a fight.

As of this week, two more people had tentatively jumped into the mayoral race.
Joining Mayor Bill Carpenter and city activist Jacob Tagger were two newcomers – a retired MBTA worker named Kevin Clapp and Marcel Smith, an assistant basketball coach at Massasoit Community College.
Except for Stewart, all current councilors-at-large had pulled nomination papers by Thursday except Robert Sullivan. He has been floated as a candidate for mayor, but has said several times he was undecided about that race.

dadof2 wrote: I saw that Tagger made a statement that he would not post any longer out of deference of his candidacy and his family. Smart move. But both candidates have prolific posters. I stopped reading as its is a constant bash and forth between posters and it's very annoying. Plus I'm by no means a prude but the language is really insulting. Both candidates aren't really accomplishing anything in the Candidate FB War IMO . Plus, I would rather come here where it's civil
When you have STP and BLT as your backers you can expect things to get nasty. I just went a couple rounds with an STP toady who tried the old "I heard from several people that..." regarding Carpenter. Its crap like that that gets me going. If you have legitimate concerns and proof then use it. I don't post anything unless I have something to back it up. Most of the people who are supporting Jacob have no clue how City Government works and I wouldn't be surprised if they had never registered to vote, although I understand Jacob's Campaign Manager is giving them rides to get registered to vote. I'd be surprised if half the people who claim to support him actually get off their asses and vote.

dadof2 wrote: Respectfully disagree. It appears both sides have "appointed" a poster or two to tout them on FB. It's relentless. It's a turnoff because it's never civil but the candidates apparently feel having a presence on FB is worth it. If we had a reputable newspaper the situation might be different. It's only July, going to be a long political season.
I have seen Campaign Managers on FB. Carpenters son Ryan and Jacobs Manager have been on. I have not witnessed nor do I know anyone else who is actually "appointed". I support Carpenter so I will post my opinions and fact check the opponents. I know there are a few who have taken it upon themselves to be the leader of the pack but I don't believe they were ever asked to perform that duty. At least no one asked me and I would refuse anyway.

People are annoyed by consistently being bombarded with candidates tag lines and messages.
Unless you're appointed by the candidate, you're not helping him/her by insulting the other candidate and their supporters.
Supporters on Social Media don't often represent the candidates position on issues correctly
And the language used by supporters immediately tunes me out.
Going to be a long 4 months.

On a side note, I believe in contraception, some ppl don't belong here, from a comic.
Can't wait for the debates, there will be some of the newer councilors who can not say they contributed much other than keeping a seat warm and asking for a raise!!

MacMillan, a former city councilor, is the latest entry in Brockton’s mayoral race.
MacMillan said he pulled nomination papers earlier this week after spending time examining the field of candidates and determining that his experience – including eight years on the council – would be attractive to city voters. "I feel like this is the time when people are looking for people with experience," MacMillan said. "The city is hurting right now. It’s definitely not going in the right direction."
As the race stood on Friday – before the full slate of candidates was finalized – MacMillan faces Mayor Bill Carpenter, Jacob Tagger, Paul Beckner, Frank Chaplin, Marcel Smith and Kevin Clapp.
July 31 is the last day for obtaining nomination paperwork for the mayoral, city council and school committee races. The last day for filing the paperwork with the Elections Commission for certification is Aug. 4.

-brockton will be a peaceful place, because when you have a really, really big sports complex where kids can play, crime will go away
-all kids will be smart because we'll get more grant money for schools... because he really, really likes kids

ironic, because he's gotta be behind the two corrupt individuals who took it upon themselves to rip off tens of thousands of dollars from the smart start program?
insensitive, because he has to balance a budget that now doesn't involve grant money bps has come to solely depend on to fund its schools and pay for its teachers, and he has to lay off teachers as a result?
...oh, and of course, he doesn't care about children like jacob tagger does
jacob tagger for mayor!
