Casino
This Brockton Complex is a dream. The COB has set aside land but although some developers have expressed interest, no one has set forth plans. As Scott said, how come those against the Casino say it's about over saturation but it's not the same for Sports Complex? Because they have personal agendas and only support that which they feel they may be involved with personally and professionally. Funny thing a developer is more apt to build a Sports Complex if there was a Casino as there would be entertainment, food and hotel rooms. That would make Brockton a destination in terms of tournaments.
Just an FYI, below is the CC action on the Complex land:
That the City Council hereby declares 12 parcels on Sprague St. available for disposition and sale to the most advantageous proposer after soliciting requests for proposals for the purchase of such property and the development of a sports complex. (FAVORABLE AS AMENDED).

I couldn't remember the names of the towns, thanks for the correction. Yeah, its pretty ridiculous that they would push a sports complex regardless of the many in surrounding towns. Stupidity at its best right there.

Just because those in Brockton involved in Sports travel to Sports Complexes doesn't mean Brockton could sustain a Sports Complex. Funny we keep hearing how we can't assess fees on sports in the schools but seems like a lot of Brockton folks are playing in leagues that require traveling and high fees but hey we can't assess fees

A final meeting in Brockton will help decide fate of proposed city casino
Updated at 10:51 AM
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced that it will meet with Mass Gaming and Entertainment, the local affiliate of the Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming, from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, March 28, at The Shaw's Center in Brockton.

"The state would lose $28 million per year in casino revenue if both a Taunton and Brockton casino are built, according to a study commissioned by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.
The report, obtained by the Times, was conducted by Spectrum Gaming Group, a national company that researched the casino market for the state Legislature and worked as a consultant to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission as the agency established its policies and procedures. Spectrum concludes going with a tribal casino in Taunton would “provide needed certainty in the market that has long been roiled by uncertainty” and keep from having an "unlevel playing field."

I believe if the state drags their feet they are going to build and we (the state) gets nothing?
Again just my thoughts. I hope they build them all. Jobs, local businesses selling goods and services. win win!! Unfortunately we will probably still be discussing this (and the power plant) years from now.

My other thing that is personally bothering me. We have another public input meeting when the IMO, the decision has already been made. And who the heck is "Pastor" Reed and why is he calling me to tell me To Stand Up For Brockton? I already stood up for Brockton when I voted For a Casino.

Very few politicians seen, no one from the state "delegation". Jack Lally of Ward 6 rocked with his pro stance. When does a ward councilor whose Ward voted FOR the casino vote against it Anne Bearegard (sp). ??
The State officials listened intently and the three minute time limit worked well. One citizen, who I will not name, made his speech a personally attacking one towards the Developer and was quickly told to return to topic and speak to the Commission.
One speaker said to make the Brockton an exit off the highway to take and not just drive by. We need the jobs, the tax revenue, the business, the infrastructure improvements. Just say YES Gaming Commission!!

I would love to see the casino take place. We NEED it! Our leaders, however are so into spending our money on addiction centers they would probably open a gambling addiction center before the casino even opened. Lol.

"In a lively hearing that drew some 200 people, City Councilor Anne Beauregard urged the commission to deny the license, saying the proposed site is too close to several schools, a public library, and a Veterans Administration Hospital. “It doesn’t belong in this neighborhood,” Beauregard said. “It’s the wrong location.”
But councilor Jack Lally said a casino would give Brockton a badly needed economic jolt. “We need the jobs,” he said. “The city needs the money a casino will bring.”

This is not a town. It's a city and that's what cities do. At least a casino wouldn't be spewing hazardous conditions.
I never hear the citizens put up any big stink over all of the drug clinics surrounding us.

And all these wannabe Mayors Need to realize, it's Carney's land. And he isn't building a Sports Complex, a Movie Theater or a Water Park. It's not Carney's job to keep your kids amused.
And I'm sure Councilor Beauregard will be sitting clutching her pearls when she has to vote for a budget that lays off teachers and City employees, all because she decided she's the moral compass of the City.
