a. Why are minority students getting into trouble at BHS? b. why are minorities committing a higher percentage of crime in this city? c. Why are minority neighborhoods more dangerous to all people? d. Why are minority students not graduating college at the rate of non-minority from Brockton? ............
Once we start to "balkanize" ourselves by being minorities before Americans, or locally, Brocktonians , we begin to divide ourselves apart. This is not a good way to go.....a Diversity Commission should be looking for ways to raise the standards of all people and not try to make changes just so they feel good. I see they are offended by the term "Housemaster"..get over it!! I am offended by the term African-American , or Greek-American, etc.......you are either an American or not!!!

How to have diversity in hiring and management ... a reasonable issue.
Discipline policies at the HS ..... possibly an issue, but it is not clear at this point if it is. So they should, maybe, look into this.
Removing housemaster because it contains "master" ... ridiculous
What's next no Master electricians or Plumbers?
No Master Craftsmen?
What are the master mechanics going to do about master clutch and slave cylinders in manual transmissions?
No Masterba......(I won't continue that word, lol ) ?
I could go on and on with hundreds of Master usage connotations. Should we do away with all of them?
Yes I know Harvard did away with housemaster, but at some point political correctness makes people look like uneducated fools. Pick up a dictionary and Housemater is defined as a British school term with no connection whatsoever to slavery.
Light Travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak. <br />We were born with two ears and only one mouth ... Think about it!

"Brockton Superintendent Kathleen Smith defended her record during a meeting Monday night downtown at the Messiah Baptist Church, which was attended by more than 50 members and guests of the city’s NAACP group. The meeting was sparked by a harshly-worded letter to the editor penned by the church’s longtime pastor, Michael Wayne Walker, accusing the school committee of “ensuring the ghettoization of the school department,” and stating that Smith has a “proven track record and adroit skill of keeping blacks and browns marginalized within the system.” “What we absolutely cannot do, and this country has done it since 1619, is to cast the blame on the victims,” said Walker, referring to the year when the first African slaves were brought to America. “As long as we allow the status quo to stay the status quo, there are always rules in place to make sure it’s nobody’s fault. Everybody is just following the rules. ... Nothing is changing because of institutional inertia, and the best way to keep things in place is institutional inertia, where nobody has to be accountable.”
"A major problem is that there are not enough minorities in the pipeline from college to become educators, Smith said. Otherwise, Smith said, the principals in the district, who make the personnel decisions, with the approval of the superintendent, would be hiring them.
Our principals very much are looking for a diverse workforce,” the superintendent said. “Our difficulty is absolutely in the teaching roles.”

gotta agree with this
.... the more we continue to entertain this kind of nonsense the deeper the divide, and if that continues, things are going to get ugly

Walker bringing up African slaves is so ignorant!
People like him who constantly bring up such idiotic statements do
nothing more than keep racism alive. They dig and dig deep to rustle up
anything they can find to stir trouble.
If anyone should be angry, it’s me. Years ago I passed with a very high
score of 98 or the post office, but was turned down because they gave it
to a minority who scored miserably. I was actually told this.
This proves education means very little.
