Absolutely. The numbers are up due to the heroin crisis with addicts living on the streets. Sad, these addicts are from good families who had to give up them and not enable their habits.

'A spat of recent fires, fights and drug overdoses in Tent City in recent weeks caused city officials to act and remove the people living there. “The activity on this property has had a growing negative impact on both residents and businesses in the area alike,” Carpenter said. "Those living there were given notice from the city last week that they would be made to leave. They were offered shelter, relocation help, counseling and addiction treatment, Carpenter said."

An estimated 75 to 80 people were living there
Removed several people?? What about the rest?
Tent city has been around for years. Once the addicts took over, they ruined it for those who were respectable.
We all tend to say “Go get a job.” Some of these people ARE working, but as the man said, he can’t afford the rents. He didn’t however say where his $800 per mo. was coming from. Is he working or is it welfare? In either case I say go get another job so he’s able to get off the street. I worked 2 and 3 jobs, why can’t he? He went on to say him and his wife. If the both of them pulled together they could make it.
So, where are these 75 to 80 people going to go? Watch your back yards.
Until a neighbor called the P.D. to report a dead man in my back yard, (turned out to be a passed out drunk) I didn’t know he was living there, but should have suspected something because I constantly picked up empty and semi filled nips along a tree where he had been sleeping. I kept dumping them and he never came back.

I don't know where they'll go. The guy in the article can't go to MainSpring he said because he was thrown out for continuous fighting. The COB has offered multiple solutions. I imagine it isn't easy for these folks but they can't stay there. It's surrounded by brush and trees and there are homes as well as businesses surrounding the area. Multiple fires. That's when Carpenter stepped in. The liability to the City must be immense.,When they cleared they found fully loaded propane tanks. Don't want to think what could've happened. A standalone toilet with a bucket to catch the waste. Hundreds of needles. Not a fan these days of Csrpenter But not sure he had any other choice.

Carpenter did do what he had to. I have no idea how bad that
place must have gotten, but up until now no one actually
complained, so it had to be bad. From the sound of it, the BOH
should have stepped in long time ago.

failed due to bad choices. You sound like you have such a
hatred for the homeless. Unless you have true and better
knowledge of those who are not addicts, etc. please keep this
in mind.
You can't lump them all in one jar.
I worked with the homeless for many years and have written an
un-plublished book, so I know first hand the many stories, some
that would touch your heart and make you think twice about your
bitterness.

And continue to give an attaboy To Carpenter. On the day he bulldozed tent city he appears with his $90,000 Director of CV Communications, (not his actual title) and makes a donation to the DJ Dream Fund. More pandering. A worthwhile organization no doubt, but pandering to his major voting bloc.
His short term solution regarding Tent City was probably the right thing. But his long term solution has many holes like most of his initiatives .
