Great news Brockton!!!
Where am I going with this? It’s all BS about the children of today having it difficult. We all did and got through it. No one catered to us. We did it because we HAD to do it.
One of my pet peeves is the use of the word “of “ in place of “ have “. I only seem to see it in Brockton. Example: I could OF instead of I could HAVE. It irks the hell out of me. I’m sure this was not taught or learned in English classes, yet Brocktonians use it all the time.
If we all sang the same note in the choir, We'd never have harmony

This has nothing to do with Brockton. I hear it all the time and mostly in adults. I am sure children are learning it from them.

Yes, I agree with children picking it up, but it's annoying to think they all went to the same
school and nothing has changed.

... and parents can correct all they want, but it won't make any difference when the standards are so damned low in ELA that even the writing kids do is so abhorrent... grammar, mechanics, etc. doesn't matter anymore... it's the idea the student is getting across that matters despite how poorly it may be written
there used to be a time when parents and teachers were on the same page when it came to language, and if there was any doubt the parent deferred to the teacher

"The administrators behind the New Heights Charter School of Brockton revealed fresh details about the organization’s educational operation in the city’s downtown, extending to the Massasoit Community College campus, during an editorial board meeting with The Enterprise on Tuesday. First of all, the Brockton charter group will pay $893 per student annually for five years to rent out its 30,000-square-foot school space in the Tuxedo’s by Merian building located on Main Street in the center of the downtown. With 315 students expected for the first year, from grades six through eight, that amounts to an annual lease cost of $281, 295."

These are the statistics on the teacher staff: "Walker said the pay range for teachers at the school, including the 12 hired so far out of 24 that are needed, is from $38,000 to $45,000. Applicants have included seniors in college, and people who have been teaching in other countries like the Philippines."

"State officials said that the New Heights Charter School in Brockton recently submitted a request for a shortened school year because of delays related to renovation work at its proposed location in the city's downtown. Questions now surround the planned 141 Main St. location, in the Tuxedos by Merian building, as state officials monitor the situation."New Heights recently submitted an amendment request to the Department to shorten year one of their school year from 184 days to 180 days to accommodate renovation delays," said Lauren Greene, assistant to the chief of staff at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, in an email to The Enterprise."
"I can't make a comment on that until I talk to my lawyer," Merian said. Omari Walker, executive director of the New Heights Charter School, said he could not comment on the building when reached recently. But he credited the Merian family for working with them. "I cannot comment on the building," Walker said. "The Merians have been great to work with. They have been some of the only folks to stand beside us. ... We are working diligently to resolve this matter." Walker previously said that the charter school agreed to pay $893 per student annually for five years to rent out the 30,000-square-foot school space in the Tuxedos by Merian building in the center of the downtown. With 315 students expected for the first year, from grades six through eight, the lease could be as high as $281,295 annually."

There are some really good Charters, Foxboro comes to mind. And maybe New Heights will eventually be a fine Charter, but it's far from being there right now.

Contractions are generally considered informal, but have long been part of standard English.
The Corpus of Historical American English has incidences of should’ve dating to 1910, could’ve dating to 1880, and would’ve dating to 1830. A Google Book Search shows incidences of all three from 1800–1810.

If the community wanted the Charter so bad how come they can't reach the enrollment figures? The Charter is here. It's on them to fulfill all the promises they made. I know you hate BPS, but they have complied will all they were legally required to. It's now on New Heights to succeed on their own. Can't do that until their building is able to be occupied

New Heights made that decision to spend almost $900.00 a student to go to that location. Agree was a terrible decision. Only one who seems to be making out on that deal is Merian . Might not be such a good decision if allegedly the delay is asbestos related?
