I accept that I am one of a handful of people who check this site these days. Where is everyone finding the local news we all used to discuss here? I miss it.

The Brockton Hub...
And they seem to be having the issues we've had in the past.

Very true. While I check the Hub daily I dont really get much local news. The Stoughton page seems to be able to keep the posts to Stoughton Topics.
I miss all our posters. I have been on here since the first month it first started some 20 years ago
jeez

Bummer. I don't like The Brockton Hub. The beauty of this site is that you can choose your topic. On The Brockton Hub, you must weed through everyone's rubbish, sadness, tragedy, and nonsense in order to figure out what's happening. The IBC Facebook page has 457 members. Wonder why nobody posts?
Kathy, I wish I knew this was here 20 years ago. But I was probably dialing in to my Internet service, sometimes free from a disk hanging at a checkout counter. Time was measured, the ringing landline cut off the surfing, and the monitor was green. What is the Stoughton page called? I am in the "Alumni", "Time Machine" and "You Know You're From Stoughton When ... " groups, as my parents moved us from Brockton.
Dave, I regret not copying and pasting the old thread about Brockton before you updated this site. So many questions were answered there about former stores, things that no longer exist. That was my favorite and most-missed topic.

Well, not to disparage my own site, but InBrockton was pretty nasty too at the height of it's popularity. I don't really go on the Hub that much because I feel like there are too many voices and most don't really want to hear what I have to say. Not that anyone on Facebook really cares what everyone else has to say.
I have a backup of the old site. Maybe I'll explore having it converted. I don't know how it would react to all the deleted accounts though since I've purged quite a few over the years. Maybe a closed forum of the old site. Something to think about, but I'm not going to do a lot of crazy investment in this...

There are two Stoughton pages I follow. Stoughton News and Stoughton Enthusiasts.
I had dial up then as well LOL aol hahahaa
The site was nasty for a while. People posted with a certain sense of security as they were using made up names. Paul had asked me to use my real name to move away from being anonymous and wanted people to be responsible for their postings too.
But we found out so much about the city /issues and politicians because people would post anonymously. They would get the word out and not have it come back on them. The hub is now filled with non Brockton related things. It used to be if there was an incident people would check here to see what was going on. Then it moved over to the hub.
Now it is hit or miss where you find things out. Sad.
