- Brockton Schools Investigate Misuse Funds
Recycle Bins....
It works very well here in my single family home neighborhood. I am not sure how well it will work in Brockton with its many multi-family units requiring out-door space for these containers. I am pretty sure that it will definitely cut down on street litter, but hauling these things out to the curb with two feet of snow on the ground might be a little bit of a chore. Snow is definitely not something I miss.

such a large receptacle and who is going to lug it out for me at my age?
I do like the idea of a covered recycle bin very much because of ignorant neighbors (only 3 fam. in neighborhood)
who never put weight on theirs. The entire neighborhood has been pickling up their trash for years.

Easton has 65 gallons for both, and the driver doesn't have to get out of the truck. Saves a lot on labor costs. We should be able to get a better deal.
BTW, how long was the previous contract?! Why on earth is the city committing to long term contracts like this. Seems like it was a 10 year contract.

Green Bags are still an option
Regarding weather they will take that all in account when they send out the instructions. Many communities have them so there must be a snow plan they use.
We recycle a lot as well and honestly I'm not sure a 96 gallon will hold all our recyclables some weeks.
Also a bit concerned about how small the trash container is.

BrocktonDave wrote: the problem with the 36 gallon containers that are used on the automatic trucks is that they are thin and have space that really can't be used with bags. The bags bridge the space (that I'm sure is calculated volume for the capacity), and decrease the capacity significantly.

You have to plan your recycling Dave. Bottle-caps go first!

I would think this is going to eliminate some jobs if the truck does all the work.

You put the wheels against the curb and the truck picks it up and dumps it with an arm.

Question - what happens with our one piece of furniture? How will that be removed with this new system?
