Casino
How often have you seen something reversed or repealed? IMHO the Taunton Casino is a done deal! I've said it before, build them both. It's not tax dollars let the market decide and let US reap the benefits of the construction jobs.
Also if the Tribe does start construction it will be hard to stop once it has started, again MY opinion.

"The final deliberations of a state commission over a proposed casino in Brockton will play out live in the city later this month. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will hold public deliberations on whether to award a license for a $677 million casino in the city starting at 10 a.m. on April 26 at the Shaw’s Center in Brockton. The state commissioned finalized (sic) its schedule for public deliberations during a meeting on Thursday morning in Boston.
“We are quickly coming to deliberation, scheduled to begin April 26 and could extend for a four-day period,” said Ed Bedrosian, executive director for the gaming commission. The first day of deliberations at the Shaw’s Center will allow members of the five-person commission to share each of their evaluation reports on the application presented by Mass Gaming and Entertainment, the local affiliate of the Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming, which hopes to build the casino at the Brockton Fairgrounds. On the first day the commissioners will focus on the Brockton proposal’s finances, economic development, and building and site plans."

"Thoroughbred horse racing and wagering will return to the Brockton Fairgrounds for the first time in 15 years, after the developer of a proposed casino at the site gave his blessing to the endeavor, according to the owner of the property. “I think there will be be a lot of local interest,” said George Carney, owner of the Brockton Fairgrounds. “A lot of people locally will want to buy horses like they did in the past. There’s a lot of people who live in the area who would like to come and enjoy themselves. It has always been a very well received business in the area.”
Carney said that Neil Bluhm, the developer behind the Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming, who is waiting on a decision next week about whether he will get a license to build a $677 million casino at the Brockton Fairgrounds, recently “gave his blessing” to horse racing at the site this year. Carney said he plans to start construction during the next two weeks to refurbish the existing track, to get it ready for horse racing starting in early July, with hopes of holding races during the Brockton Fair."

Horse racing will only be seasonal, whereas the Casino would be all year round and bring in a ton of money for our city. Sigh.

Oops! Forgot about that, but he does get to keep that precious land and not have to pay taxes. And precious it is!dadof2 wrote: I don't think he's exempt from taxes in horse racing? The State always gets their cut in gambling.

The Plainville casino, I predict will struggle as they have no concert venue/draw.

No matter whether Brockton gets the casino or not, in a couple of years there will be a multitude of casino choices. Everett will be spectacular, Las Vegas spectacular. Springfield will also be a Vegas clone. It's in MA and closer than CT, somewhat. And we will either have 1 in Brockton and 1 in Taunton, or at least Taunton. And there's Plainridge if you just want slots and a dinner out. That's why I don't think we've I'll get the casino license, oversaturation,

Not so sure about that. Springfield is fighting with the Casino builders. After the fact the builders see some over saturation and want to downsize the plans, Springfield is not happy as they feel they were sold on a big grand casino and now they want to downsize it by about 25%. Everett could be tied up in courts for a while. One of the backers a felon, neighboring towns etc? It will get built, the answer is when.
Taunton is moving dirt as we speak, they are rushing to be first and with 8% less overhead (17% taxes as opposed to 25%) I think Taunton is going to do well! I'm all for the Brockton Casino, I just don't see it. There was a time I didn't think the Wampanoags would get their land in trust either so who knows the back door deals being made?!

The deliberations of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission at the Shaw’s Center starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Members of the public can come as they please to watch as the gaming commission goes through its evaluation presentations for the Region C casino license application submitted by Mass Gaming and Entertainment. Public input will not be allowed, though.
The deliberations, scheduled in Brockton for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, will also stream live online via the gaming commission’s web site, www.massgaming.com , by clicking the “Live Streaming Video” tab. The commission said previously that when there is just one applicant for the license, it holds the meeting in the host community, to make it more accessible to its residents. A determination is scheduled to come on Thursday (in Brockton), or Friday (in Boston) if more time is needed."
