- Mayor Wants To Purchase Aquaria Plant
Main Spring
I hope you continue to get what you want if you fall on hard times. Personally I think you've been very lucky and decision making has not been your Savior. Too bad my book isn't published so you could read it and get an education on the true meaning of the homeless without clumping them all into one pot.boxerfamily wrote: A paternalistic attitude toward the homeless does not help them. They will get help when they want it!!!
I initially started out helping all of the homeless in Boston that I came across, which was many. I then decided to focus on one individual so that I was sure that person got the help that was necessary. I happened to choose an elderly black man who was practically an animal. He ran away from me every time I tried to get near with food and clothing. Eventually (weeks) he saw no harm and the rest is history. I worked day and night on him took him to the hospital for a good check-up and found him to be schizophrenic, yet because I didn't give up on him, I wound up giving this man a decent life for five plus years before he died. The before and after pictures would shock you. I took him to dinners, movies, picnics, ocean, etc. And guess what?
He not only cleaned up well, but we became the best of friends. I found out he was in the military and I buried him in Bourne. He was discharged because of his illness and was on the streets for 37 yrs. until I came along. No one knew he served in the military otherwise he may have gotten help. I truly miss the old guy and think of him often.
Btw, he was so bad when I found him I couldn't understand a word he said. I put a recorder in my uniform pocket and took it home to study so I could communicate. Once he was on meds, he spoke well.
So, do you think this man made bad choices?

I'm truly impressed. I never met God before.boxerfamily wrote: I try to be cautious in decision making so whenever I save enough money I buy another place. Right now I have 4 homes . I do it by sacrificing. As for this story, my heart goes to that man; however, this story is anecdotal. The people who need the most help are the ones paying t he bills.....
As for this man, there are plenty more like him, all with different stories.
I think if you could get beyond yourself, you might find out there are people out there that are more human than you think or realize. You're too much into yourself to see that.

astonishing how you can issue this mantra... yet, you presume to walk in the shoes of so many whose life experiences you don't even know, and will measure their failures against your successes and judge them as losers
that's the textbook definition of jackhole

I have been on boards of all of them. I support cases where people are deprived of opportunity. All of the homeless had the chance for an education and lost it or got involved wiht drugs! BAD decisions! I went to school in Dot during busing and saw how people make decisions that impac t their own lives. We would be a far greater society if individual responsibility had meaning.NEVER walk in another man's shoes unless you know them!
All homeless did not have the opportunity for an education, so you're wrong. Some became homeless because of their parents. You have dealt with the youth who have not gone astray yet.
You said, Quote: NEVER walk in another man's shoes unless you know them![/quote]
You need to practice what you preach. I, myself, have been homeless, so have walked in those shoes. You, on the other hand have a bitterness toward every and anyone who has fallen on bad times.

go so far when you're out of work.
I'm going to give you a good example of things that happen to people
who are well prepared and that person happens to be me. I worked
for ADT Security (Tyco). I had a 401K, pension, life insurance, stocks, health
plan, etc. If you're familiar at all with Tyco, the CEO embezzled millions and
went to jail. No one ever recouped their money. I lost 135K. Others who were
there longer lost half a million or more. During my retirement they reduced
my life insurance from 25K to 25 hundred, which they say you can't do, but
they did it. Try buying life insurance when you're in your 70's.
Yes, I was well prepared, so I thought. The company screwed thousands of
People. No fault of our own. They could have given some money back, because
they did retrieve a lot, but they chose not to.
This is a good case scenario of what could happen and did. Your rainbow world
Would have been very clouded if it happened to you.

Also Father Bills/Main Spring the director or CEO makes well over $125,000 a year. How many people do they serve and you would think if they can spend what Billions on Homelessness and I know that includes section 8 and other programs then maybe we need to build a 10 story building studio style and if you want to live their no drinking and get a job whether volunteering or something along that. Massachusetts is a state that says you have a right to shelter. Problem is all these shelters open at 4pm and close at 7am kicking out everyone.
.
I for one do not thing that Main Spring should be there. I also know some people do not want a home or a place to live. The routine is buy booze in the morning and drink all day and go to shelter at night. The cycle has to end. arrests for open containers and public drunkeness and no more panhandling. Build mainspring somewhere else in the city and whats up with the new building on Main Spring by the Old Phanoff hospital.
Also shut tent city down, we dont need to encourage people to come to Brockton to get assistance, its a joke, other towns dont do it but good ole Brockton does.
Also these non profits I dont know what they pay in property taxes maybe nothing but we have to impose fee's. My landlady is 86 and pays $4000 a year. She paid her dues and the city still reams her with taxes. The city can do better. If you lived in Brockton for more than 20 years and over 65 then you pay half taxes period.
sick of all these immigrants coming here and having ebt cards and section 8 and driving new cars and keep on pumping out kids and get this they then go to doctors to get their kids diagnosed with adhd to get another government check. We need to stand up for the seniors and lifetime Brocktonians and change some major laws and we can do it all it takes is signatures and it can be passed into law.
