The title of the article couldn't be better: "Brockton police, elected leaders declare gun buyback a success"
gun buyback
Don't you just love it! It was a success! And Brockton police and elected officials declare it to be so!
Thing is, why is it whenever I see a headline like this, and whilst reading the article a small part of me feels like I'm just walking down the street minding my own business when a black van comes screeching up beside me, a bunch of thugs jump out and throw a burlap bag over me and carry me into the van where they blindfold me, duct-tape my mouth and take me to a remote location where I'm tied to a chair and tortured with propaganda over a loudspeaker about the existence of unicorns and rainbows with chests of treasure at one end?
Maybe it's because that metaphor isn't so far removed from the truth.
Headlines like this- and you've all seen them, the ones proclaiming how crime is down or at some record low in Brockton, or that Brockton High is graduating all geniuses that are going to college, or that downtown is soon to be revitalized and will bring back Brockton's glory days... any day now- are a total affront to any critical thinking human that resides in Brockton. Then again, can you blame the Enterprise or any of the idiots propagating this nonsense? After all, all one needs to do is take a stroll through the Brockton Hub, and hell, I could write an article about how the earth is flat, and as long as I declare it to be true I'd have nothing to worry about.
There is so much wrong with an article like this it's disturbing.
- By what measure was it declared a success? Twelve guns were turned in. What if it was eleven, would it have been a failure?
- So according to the mayor, twelve guns turned in will now reduce gun violence in the community? Is this idiot serious?
- And guns turned in "that could potentially be used in a violent crime"? Right. That rhetoric.
- What's up with the two-hundred dollar Vicente's gift card? Did they actually convince themselves that criminals would suddenly come out of the woodwork and exchange their burners for groceries?
- Mayor says it's been 20 years since the last gun buy back program. You know why it's been 20 years Mr. Mayor? Because they're stupid PR stunts, that's why. But I guess if you can skip a couple generations and have at it again under an idiocracy full of millenials, you might be okay.
- You gotta love the location, too. An effing church! Because nothing speaks sanctuary to a criminal like the powerful protection of God. LOL!
I don't know, I could go on. Anyway, I guess until the next person gets shot or the next violent crime takes place with a gun in Brockton I can comfortable declare that I feel safe, thanks to Brockton's successful buying back guns for groceries program.
I'm gonna go rent 'The Hateful Eight' on Amazon.

The School Department was much more successful. They spent $25,000 on lawn signs and got over $600,000 in additional funding. Rumor has it they are going to spend $250,000 in lawn signs, next year, in the hope of getting $6million in funding.

I have to admit I let out a big chuckle when I read that.
Don’t blame the mayor for everything. It’s the entire leadership.
It’s rather scary to think they actually believe this is trying.
Those who gave up their guns will be regretting it down the line
and will be kicking their arse. I will NEVER give mine up!
Lol to the school topic, Johnboy

The handguns that were turned in were pretty old and revolvers to boot. I didn't see one auto in the mix. It was a success only if they were targeting antique guns but other than that, no. I don't think those handguns were worth a $200 gift card from Vincentes market. An anonymous tip that leads to an arrest and a conviction would be worth that.

Very true Scott. I do know that some older guns do not have numbers on them and also they might not be registerd. Way back in the day you did not have to register them. So there was no real way to track them. There are still legally owned guns that are not registered. I would rather have those old ones turned in so they dont fall in to the wrong hands
