free/reduced lunch form...

free/reduced lunch form... was created by oldskool
as if the stupid standardized tests aren't bad enough, i get a phone call followed by an email that we haven't filled out the free/reduced lunch application ... and that even though we won't be taking advantage of the benefit, it is mandated by the state that we fill it out, anyway
has anyone seen this application?.... maybe if we were applying for a reduced or free lunch we'd fill it out,,,, otherwise, it's not happening, and i made that quite clear to the school
now i'll sit and wait for the idle threats from the school and the police to show up at my front door for not filling out something 'mandated by the state' even though we don't want the benefit
.... this should be good

Just fill it out without your very personal information. We used to do name/address then put N/A in all the boxes that we refused to disclose. We did it for two kids, total of 8 years, never a complaint. We were not eligible, but they still want the forms; you do not have to give income, etc.

Maybe they want to collect the income information that they ask for on the form.
I didn't fill it out either.

Not sure if I am explaining this properly, but someone at BHS told me once that it was important for them to receive the form back even if it did not have complete information. The first time we were asked to fill it out, I did not, and we ended up receiving some kind of letter that sounded like we would be in trouble. I called, they said to only put name and address, and thus I repeated that procedure annually with no other problems. I believe they do not require the information they ask for on the form unless you are participating in the program, but they need to have a count of forms for each student - something like that.

i can appreciate the reason why, if it's because they need a count of students... but don't issue the demand behind the veil of an idle threat, because that won't motivate me
and frankly, they'd probably still like it if we provided the information required on the form even though we won't be taking advantage of the benefit
nanny state

Since federal and state requirements must be met to certify and participate in the program, I have a feeling it is a difficult job making sure it runs smoothly. I was told they would rather receive the blank form than the income. They can tell by other qualifying benefits which kids need not complete an application. I assume this is to catch those that may fall through the system, most likely a significant number in Brockton. Returning that form blank was the least of my worries. Another thing that I did annually was to opt out of the provision of the No Child Left Behind Act that mandates high schools hand over private student information to military recruiters.

I do the same CH. If the filling out the form helps the paper pushers dot the is and cross the ts, with the end result that kids who need to eat get fed, then no problem. I also opted out of Every child left behind as well.

We ask that they be turned in because this results in money back from the government. Just fill in Name and address and send it in. You need not provide income if don't want to but participation % is what drives federal dollars
