Schools have historically been the "but" to Brockton. "Yeah Brockton is a sh*thole BUT the schools are like the best in the country!"

Hasn't changed since last year. We're not even on the list of this current years ranking. I think some people are just lying to themselves. Even Zillow ranks Brockton schools mid to low.

The school system in Brockton has always been below average. It was a touch better back in the 70s but was never anything special. The system always has had some great success due to the amount of students. There are some programs that are still solid; even outstanding. I would say the Drama Club and Band programs are still top notch. The IB program is solid for the 4% who qualify. Everything else in the system from academics to athletics is below average.

And why do you think that is? 40 teachers were laid off. 38 kids in labs at BHS. Teachers have no books. They are still using overhead projectors at the HS. Teachers can't suspend or disipline students. The average class size is 38. The majority of parents never show to conferences with teachers. An overwhelming number of kids are on IEP's and I know you know how time consuming they are. A 10 million deficit and the only thing that gets attention is potential cuts to athletics and the closing of one kindergarten center school. Yeah I know it's the teachers' fault. Keep laying them off and they'll be no teachers. No one wants their entitlements cut. Don't touch music. Don't touch sports. Don't close schools. But hey lay off 50 more teachers so class size will hit 40. That'll help, your home values.
