Kickback scandal in Brockton triggers changes at City Hall
Over five years, between 2003 and 2008, according to records obtained by The Enterprise, the state Department of Public Safety granted him five extensions to give him more chances to pass the test.

Finally, when the state refused to grant any more extensions, the Brockton City Council decided to rewrite the rules.

On Nov. 26, 2007, the council unanimously voted to submit a home-rule petition to the state Legislature declaring that Vasapollo “shall be deemed to meet or exceed the qualifications for the position of inspector of buildings” even without passing any exams.

Anyone having anything to do with this should be punished as well as the inspector, because they're ALL guilty.

"The legislation was filed by state Sen. Robert S. Creedon and co-sponsored by state representatives Geraldine Creedon, Christine E. Canavan and Thomas P. Kennedy. Kennedy is now a state senator."

It's your state representatives at work. Just another reminder that it's not what you know it's who you know.

I would love to ask these people why the felt that Brockton could function without a state certified building inspector?

At least Deval Patrick did one right thing when he vetoed the home rule petition..

One clear example why Home Rule petitions rarely ever work...

Was there an option to just hire someonelse who can pass the test?

Some people are just not good at tests but may be very qualified. Was there an option to have an Oral Board examination?

Why is Vassapollo so important to the powers that be ?

Why should there be special testing, such as an oral test? If you can't pass, you can't pass. Them's the breaks. There will always be people who are not good at testing. That, in itself, means you are lacking something. It's called confidence.

There are always options. This city always chooses the option to hire good ole boys.

I'm not crazy about the City Council role in this conspiracy that lasted through 3 administrations.  Talk about sweeping it under the rug....

anyway, maybe the FBI will dig deeper and haul Jack Yunits away for corruption!

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Mayor Balzotti on the city council in '07? You can blame our state reps but you also have to look at the original drafters.
