Dad - we are in the same boat. Never discussed moving until recently - nice house, street, yard. It is complicated. Where would we go? Will it be near our jobs, the commuter rail (children use it for school and work)? Private trash or must we haul? Sewer or Septic? MWRA costs? Higher real estate tax bill? What about those new neighbors? There are so many things to analyze and ultimately it makes me furious that we even have to think of this. If we only had officials who did more than make promises, if we held accountable those who manage our funds, and if we attracted middle class rather than those with no class, we would not feel like this. I do not appreciate, after all of the years invested in this city, the notion that it is beyond the point of improvement.

CH, you nailed it. Add the fact you have to be able to afford the new house is a big issue. My mortgage is almost done. I don't have the time, energy or desire to move but I have to feel safe and I'm not feeling that lately.

I would love a new zip code, but don't won't to downsize at this time in our lives. We have a plan for retirement, although years away, but a plan nonetheless. Any plan is subject to change. Have actively looked at houses outside of Brockton, all the right conditions would need to be in place to change the plan.

A bullet grazed the chest of a 12-year-old boy when gunfire erupted during a Spring Street party Saturday night, police said. The boy was driven by car to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital. The shooting occurred during a party at 77 Spring St., he said. Shots were fired from the back yard of a Walnut Street house into the Spring Street yard, LeGrice. People at the scene “were all extremely uncooperative” with police officers who responded, he said.

It seems to be the weapon of their choice too and they know how to use it well. I pity the poor cops who have to deal with a machete toting scum bag.

10:15pm pop-pop-pop 8 gunshots ringing out in the quiet of the night.
Had it. It really doesn't matter who is Mayor. Second set of gunshots tonight. Out of here I think. Afraid. This is only getting worse. Spot Shotter is getting the casings but rarely the shooters someone innocent will be caught In This madness.
ETA: 10 or so shots fired from car. Car sped off. Allegedly Spot Shotter didn't pick up; called in. Some speculation the thugs are testing the location of Spot Shotter. It's a freeking Wild West out there.

What part of the West side? South, middle or North? I'm by Clifton Heights and didn't hear any shots. My neighborhood is extremely quiet. We've had one batch of shots fired about 6 weeks ago a block from my house in the middle of the day.

I did not hear this either, windows were open. But, now that you mention it, there was some type of activity a bit earlier per my husband who was out. He said it was towards Ash, from West Chestnut, arrests being made. This is really crazy. I sometimes work late, arrive home around 9-ish. Very often now on West Chestnut there is a speed trap at that time of night, somewhere between Ash and Linwood. They almost always have someone pulled over.
